·5 ways you can promote your website
Monday, January 31st, 2011
Having a professionally designed website is essential in todays market. The next step is getting people to your site. What’s the best way to go about this. Well, there are many ways, and it can be hard to decipher which ones you should use. Many times it depends on your target market and where that market hangs out. Below are 5 ways you can promote your site today, and get the traffic you are looking for.
1. Facebook
If you don’t have a Facebook fan page for your business yet—get one. Over 600 million people are on Facebook now and that includes almost every demographic. So, chances are that your target market is on there. Get a page, get some friends and tell them that your site is up. Be sure you remember to add a link to your website. Ask your friends to recommend your Facebook page. Once you have a good following you can post updates that you’ve made on your website and drive a ton of traffic.
2. Email your list
Most companies have a list of emails from past customers. And we all know that those customers are more likely to buy from you again. So why not shoot them an email announcing your new website. Ask them to give you feedback on the website. While they are there, a percentage may contact you for more business.
3. Direct Mail Campaign
In our highly technological world, direct mail still works. Although, you can’t pack as much info and problem-solving power into a direct mail piece as you can a website, it’s a good way to bring people to your site.
4. Put Your URL on EVERYTHING!
I’m serious. There’s been many times that I’ve had run into clients after designing a great website for them and they still haven’t put the web address on their business card/signage/brochures/decals. What a missed opportunity! Don’t let this happen to you. The more exposure your site can get, the better.
5. Search Engine Optimization
And last but certainly not least is good ol’ SEO. I put this at the bottom because it’s probably one of the more complicated ways to promote your site, but it’s very effective. With good SEO, your prospects will have an easier time finding you when they search for your chosen keywords. If you have a content management system, update your site regularly with fresh content. Be sure to write for humans first and search engines last. Weave your keywords into your copy naturally. Also, be sure to put keywords in your title tag, but not too many! Keyword stuffing is not taken to kindly by google. Keep at it. It can take some time to see your rankings go up so be persistent.
There are many other ways you can promote your site, like standing on the corner of the street shouting your domain name, but these five are more than likely to get some traffic to your site!
